Happy Canada Day!

On behalf of the PLRA Board, we extend our warmest welcome and wish you all an enjoyable and pleasant summer at Percy Lake with friends and family. For the coming week, we wish you all a happy holiday, especially July 1 celebrating Canada Day. We also extend our greetings to our US residents on the July 4 Independence Day.

Update on events

Typically, we would be holding events, including our Annual General Meeting, Picnic, and Fishing Tournaments, rain or shine, but this is not a typical year.

While we can make no fast predictions as to how the summer or fall will be, there are still activities by families and friends that will take place, respecting of course, the need to maintain social distancing, and other levels of protection.

As such, we will attempt to hold our annual general meeting via Zoom or some format of that nature to allow for participation to the degree possible.

While a physical gathering for a picnic is not likely, there may be other ways in which we can “socialize” safely, perhaps on the lake. Ideas are welcome.

As to “Angling Activities”, for a number of years, we have held a full season youth angling contest and a Live Release Fishing Tournament, typically a weekend in mid-August.  At this stage, based on current restrictions by the provincial government regarding fishing tournaments and social distancing (that would affect who shares a boat), we may need to adjust our rules in order to hold such events. We will keep you informed and up-to-date if and when these events could occur.

PLRA Membership – Reminder

The annual PLRA membership fee, $30 per family, pay our major expenses, including membership in organizations including Coalition of Haliburton Property Owners’ Association (CHA), the Federation of Ontario Cottagers’ Associations (FOCA), and the Coalition for Equitable Water Flow (CEWF) as well as additional expenses incurred by PLRA’s annual obligations and events.

While there has been a good response to membership renewals to date, we still have a way to go to reach last years’ levels to maintain a healthy fund.  So as a reminder, if you have not yet renewed or joined the PLRA, a membership form is included for your convenience.

In closing, the PLRA wishes you and your family a healthy summer as you enjoy your time at the lake and keep you posted as to any issues or changes that emerge over the next few weeks that may impact our area.

Above all, stay safe.
