Dog Walkers Note

A porcupine is making its home near Driftwood Trail (where Percy Lake Rd once ended, the Beaver pond/Snowplow turnaround).   The travel range for porcupines apparently up to 200acres, although they prefer to be nocturnal.  Not sure if there’s still an after-hours vet closer than Peterborough.

Fire Ban continues.  Smoke with a risk of thunderstorms [Thurs], per Weather Network.  As of Wed Jul 5, at least 80 wildfires in Ontario.  Wildfire Smoke animated map:

AGM, Bass and NEW Golf Tournament Dates

The Annual General Meeting and the Bass Tournament will be on Aug 19.  And Bob Wong is organizing a Golf Tournament set for Sept 16 at Lakeside Golf Club.

Time: 2pm – First tee off (Dinner/Drinks will follow at the golf club house)

Format: Best Ball – Organizers will create the foursomes.

From Dysart Council Minutes: Motion #23-260

“Be it resolved that Council acknowledges receipt of the delegation from Dave Freeman on behalf of the Haliburton Lake Cottagers’ Association, requesting use of municipal land located at 5177 Haliburton Lake Road for the purpose of constructing an emergency air ambulance helicopter landing pad; and

Further directs that staff return to Council with a report on the feasibility of moving forward with the initiative in the proposed location.”

The site being referenced is on the North side of the road currently marked with ‘No Dumping’ signs.

The Haliburton Highlands Land Trust is having and information presentation on the ‘Highlands Corridor’ July 20 in Minden 7pm

  • The CEWF has issue the first draw down forecast: Jul 3 -> 17 [from 1.851 to 1.737, metres at the dam]
  • The 2023 Youth Fishing Contest continues through the fishing season.  The 2022 Winners will be announced/awarded at the AGM
  • County studying licensing of short term rentals.
  • Floating Cottage ban from Province:

“Concerns were expressed that floating accommodations could disturb local fish and wildlife by disrupting the natural environment and increase the risk of pollution from garbage, greywater disposal and spills,” says the text of the release.
