The PLRA respectfully acknowledges that the lands and waters of Percy lake are the traditional homeland of the Ojibway and Huron-Wendat Nations. We acknowledge their stewardship througout the ages. We also would like to honour the Residential School Children in solidarity with First Nations and Indigenous Peoples.

As such, we, as residents of Percy Lake, are also stewards of the lake, and seek to protect and treasure what it has to offer us.

As the summer season “officially” begins on the July, Canada Day week-end, the PLRA Board extends our warmest welcome and wishes you all an enjoyable and pleasant summer at Percy Lake with friends and family.

First and foremost, we hope that you and your loved ones are well. With increasing vaccination providing protection from the spread of Covid-19 virus, including the variants, we are receiving some assurance that “normality” may be returning. However, caution is still warranted, and especially so, as there are limited resources in many communities to cope with this situation.

As to “activities” this summer, the PLRA will be holding our annual traditional Bass Fishing Tournament in August. This event is so popular and easily respects social distancing! Whether we can hold other in-person events, such as our “annual” picnic or a face-to face annual general meeting (AGM) is still another matter, at this stage. We will keep you informed in any case and send out reminders for each event along with relevant details.

PLRA MEMBERSHIP – REMINDER

The annual PLRA membership fee is a modest $30 per family. A reminder to renew and/or join PLRA was sent out a couple weeks ago, and we have had an excellent response so far, so this is yet another reminder of the value and importance of joining PLRA. A membership form is included for your convenience.

LAKE WATER LEVELS – Haliburton and Northern Areas

Needless to say, the weather has been erratic and somewhat unpredictable. At the same time, we are witnessing very low (record) water levels. For more information, refer to: https://cewf.typepad.com/coalition_for_equitable_w/

Have a great time this summer, enjoy what our lake has to offer, and we ask that you practice safe boating.

Best regards,

Anna Tilman, President PLRA, annatilman@sympatico.ca
